Language can stimulate imagination and creativity. Words have power and meaning, use them with care.

Look at the light.

"Ideas are ten-a-penny. Everyone gets them. It's just that we tend to edit them out or throw them away; we dismiss them as irreverent and unworthy, or we start to develop them but become riddled with self-doubt and lose our energy. Ideas have to be fostered, made friends with, and then encouraged through their various stages until they're strong enough to stand on their own. When they're ready, they'll make their own demands and direct their own completion." - Nick Bantock

Architecture is about space, not mass.

Stop looking to yourself, start looking at the world.

Collage is an act of curation - it is the act of hunting and gathering.

Visualization is continuous - it cannot be packaged into tidy categories - learn to see beyond.

Practicality and imagery need to go hand in hand.

Connectors and devices are important. Don't make the viewer go through the garbage to reach the visual treasure.

Hardware carries emotional weight, use them with care.

Heavy-handedness is not a good thing, learn to be subtle.

Cutesy is lame.

Occupy your own life creatively, even if things fall flat.

Interact, not connect.

Learn time by the river

Effort goes into making something look effortless.

What lies below the surface affects the surface.

The body is the first instrument to play in artmaking.

"When I make a work, I often take it to the very edge of its collapse." - Andy Goldsworthy

There is a world beyond what words can define. Art occupies this space.

The creative life is lived outside the institution, in your own mind.

You have to eat, breathe and sleep creatively in order to make creatively.

Innovation is not the same as developement.

We use linguistic shorthand to deal with complexity.

Conciousness and objectivity play a part in this kind of work.

All the visual components and elements carry considered, effective voice in imagery.

Presentation is everything - presentation can make or break your piece

The enviroment around affects your art - pay attention, take time to reorganize each day

Never skip out on quality workmanship - even if the idea is not strong, quality workmanship and use of materials can make it beautiful

The actual image is more important than anything you could ever say about your piece - learn when to shut up

Your conduct as an artist affects your art and people's view of it - pay attention to your behavior, and how you interact with people and the enviroment around you, and your art will benefit

Take time each day to find simple beauty in the world around you, whether it's a shadow on the wall or a gorgeous color - it will improve your seeing

Own up to your mistakes, and clean them up (and others) without being told

Keep track of everything in your life, it helps you stay focused

Play with language, it improves your mind

Write down even the smallest idea, you may make a master's thesis on it later

I've been cleaning out my dA account, deleted a lot of stuff, and I'm going to be submitting a lot of new stuff, and probably adding some prints and such.

Also, you can now get mousepads of a couple of my stain glass vector pieces!

Just thought I'd bother to update! I loooooove KCAI, it's so awesome. I have pretty much the best teacher in the whole freshman department, in fact the whole idea of foundations was his doing, and it took off at other schools. So I feel pretty priviledged to be taught by him. He's insane, but awesome!

I think I'm doing pretty well, at least I'm trying hard to, hehehe. This week has been shit, but it's getting better. Our last project was a photography project, so I'll try to get those put up sometime.

In other news, I get to go photograph people at my teacher's swanky birthday party event at his studio tomorrow, that's pretty exciting. And I got my first paying design job a couple weeks ago, that was really cool (and good cause art supplies are EXPENSIVE!!!) - should have that put up soon too.

Anyways, two more weeks till thanksgiving (I think... :S) and then a week more of projects, and another week of finishing stuff, and then I should be coming home around the 16th of December for 6 weeks of catching up and boredom.

Everything that is new-ish

I leave for school in exactly 7 weeks, yayayayayay! I can't wait to get outta here, I'm bored silly and I hate my job, ugh. Despite being bored, I'm also in a creative slump, so I haven't bothered to get up off my ass all summer and really create much of anything, besides a mexican village set out of styrofoam sheets for my church's vacation bible school.

School's gonna be fun though, I'm really excited, and I've already started to make friends. My schedule looks something like this:

Foundations (giant general art class), 9 credits, 8-2pm MWF
Art History, 3 credits, 11-12.20 TR
History of Western Thought (philosophy), 3 credits, 4-5.20pm MW

So it looks like I'll be keeping busy, heheh.

In other news, I managed to break my left wrist learning how to longboard the other week, so I'll be in a cast till like the week before I leave for school, fun, hehehe. At least it was my left and not my right, or I wouldn't be working, which would be bad.

And it was my 21st birthday on Tuesday, which I spent working, going to the doctor, and being ill. That was fun. I was gonna have a party on Friday, but I changed my mind after some shit blew up with most of my close friends at a 4th of July party. I may still go out this weekend with some other friends, I don't know.

That's pretty much it, yeah. Boredom central.
